Energy Assistance

The Energy Assistance Program provides a one-time per heating season assistance in paying the heat bill for eligible households. Benefits of the Energy Assistance Program include:

  • The program helps with all heat fuel types (oil, natural gas, wood, propane, and electric).
  • The program provides grants ranging from $100 to $1000 (depending on income, household size, type of housing, and heat bill)
  • The program provides some heating system repairs for applicant owner
Program Components
There are three Energy Assistance Program components. They are:

  • The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) usually opens around November 15 (depending on the availability of funding) and closes when funds are spent, usually around April 1. This component helps with all fuel types and has a maximum benefit of $1,000.
  • The Puget Sound Energy HELP program is usually open from October 1 to September 15 and has a maximum benefit of $1,000.
  • The Cascade Natural Gas Washington Energy Assistance Fund (WEAF) program is usually open from October 1 to September 15 and has a maximum benefit of $500.
Power Shut Off
For all three program components, it is not necessary to have a past due balance or be shut off to get help. If your utilities are shut off, you have received a disconnect notice, or you are out of fuel, you must come to our offices when the above program components are open. We are located in the Lower Level of the Robert Drewel (East Administration) Building at 3000 Rockefeller Avenue in downtown Everett, Washington. We are located just across from the Snohomish County Corrections Building). View the Snohomish County Government Campus Map for details.Crisis assistance is provided at 8:30 a.m. or 1:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 9:15 am or 1:00 pm Friday (except for legal holidays).
