Overview
Korean Women’s Association – now known as KWA – began in 1972 as a social club for Korean women married to American servicemen at the Fort Lewis Army base and McChord Air Force Base. To battle the feeling of isolation, they came together to begin outreach services to other Koreans in need across Pierce County. Soon the club was providing driving lessons, translation, transportation and assistance to domestic violence victims.
Now, in 2018, KWA offers services in 11 Western Washington counties and employs 1,200+ employees to serve diverse needs of more than 10,000 people each year. KWA’s services include:
- In-home care
- Immigration and Naturalization
- Health Screenings
- Mental Health and Chemical Dependency Counseling
- Domestic Violence Shelter
- Affordable Housing
